Tips for a Good Print

  • Cover the table first — the paint washes off skin easily, but not always off wood.
  • Press the whole palm down flat and lift straight up. Sliding smudges it.
  • Do the biggest hand first and the smallest last, so the little prints sit on top.
  • Let each colour dry a minute before the next hand goes on.
  • Never leave a young child alone with the paints.

Is the paint safe on skin?

The paints are washable and made for handprint use. Do a small patch test first if a child has sensitive skin, and wash hands straight after.

Can I use it with a newborn?

Yes — a parent gently presses the hand rather than the baby doing it. Work quickly and wipe the hand immediately afterwards.

How long does the paint take to dry?

Touch dry within an hour, fully set overnight. Leave it flat until it is properly dry before framing.

Can I add names or a date?

Yes. Once the prints are dry, write underneath with a fine marker — names, ages and the date are what make it worth keeping.

What if we make a mistake?

Wipe it off straight away with a damp cloth while the paint is wet. Once it dries it is permanent, so have a practice press on paper first.
